Norseman Gold operates Australia's longest continuously running gold mining operation, having produced over 5.5 million ounces of gold over a period of more than 65 years from its Norseman field located 725km east of Perth, Western Australia.
Mining at the Norseman underground deposits is by a combination of airleg stoping, mechanised room and pillar stoping and longhole open stoping. In addition, ore for the mill is also produced during development of the underground ore drives which follow the strike of the orebody where possible.
Underground mining is currently being undertaken to a depth of approximately 300 metres on the Main Field orebodies, with access being provided by the Bullen decline, which is located next to the Phoenix CIL mill.
The Harlequin orebodies are being mined to a depth of 600 metres with access being provided by the Harlequin decline which is located approximately 10 km north of the Bullen decline.
